Even when the economy is slow, we still find funds to belong to PICE. It pays for itself!
We already belonged to a local print credit group when I came across PICE, so I knew the value of being able to network and share information with other print industry professionals. Although I still belong to a local group, I find I have more customers in common with PICE members.
Why use PICE to get the information I need to make a credit decision?
The information I get from PICE members is accurate, relevant, and up-to-date.
When I ask for references directly from potential customers, of course, they only give the "good" references. Often no printers are listed, or the customer might request we not contact their present printer, saying they don't want to sour that relationship. As a result, I'd be left with little usable information on which to base a decision.
By accessing information on the PICE database, I'm able to get a real, factual picture of a new or current customer. I quickly find out how that customer is paying other printers. It's interesting to see how, quite often, the information the customer provided doesn't stand up to the actual data provided by PICE members.
PICE has become my best defense against making a credit decision that may likely turn to a bad debt in the future. Our company has saved a lot of money by using PICE – especially when it comes to requests for "rush" jobs from certain individuals. We get up-to-date information, and we get it quickly.
In my experience, PICE provides the print industry professional with the best credit information available. Because the standard credit reporting agencies like D&B and Experian don't focus on the print industry, their data is often incomplete. It's not as timely as the PICE information, which comes straight from other printers and is constantly being updated. And, with PICE, if I need to talk directly to a printer who has history with my customer, I can simply send an e-mail or make a phone call and get what I need very quickly.
Frankly, I don't know how credit managers can consistently make good decisions without the kind and quality of information and resources PICE provides.
